"Lake Performance Racing"
Layne is not only a racecar driver, but also a professional mechanic, hot rod builder, and businessman. He has co-owned Lake Performance Automotive in Langley, B.C. for the past eight years, and is keenly aware of the importance and advantages of mixing high quality business practices with the exciting world of high performance automotive and drag racing. Layne's experiences with automobiles, and how to make them go much faster, date back to the childhood days he spent learning from his father: renowned high-performance mechanic, racecar builder, and automotive consultant, Rick "The Wrench" Wooley.
With his interest in racing fueled by the re-opening of Mission Raceway Park in 1992, Layne's dream became to pilot a very fast car down the quarter-mile track. His first racecar was a classic 1967 Buick Skylark, which was soon followed by a wheel-standing 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, both of which were heavily modified street cars. He was determined to go even faster. Eventually he was presented with an opportunity that he couldn't pass up: the purchase of a full-out, purpose-built racecar - his current 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Already designed to go down the track very quickly, Layne redesigned and modified this car to go even faster!
With the advent of the 'Doorslammer' class,
drag strip owners have been clamoring to have this class and its unique
competitors at their tracks. Doorslammer cars have provided exciting
race action for many thousands of spectators, who have come out especially
just to see these cars run. Track owners and car clubs often invite
this class out as a featured event, even on weekends that are dedicated
to motorcycles or hot rods and have no other car classes running.
Some Doorslammer cars are based on newer models, and some based on
vintage classics, but ALL of them are very identifiable, unique, and
FAST! Layne's nitrous-powered Cutlass is one of the fastest and most
consistent performers of the bunch, allowing him to regularly finish
higher in the season's standings every year.
