Sept. 23, 2004 Final weekend update. It could be the biggest field of the season as close to two dozen cars are expected. I expect 70% of those above to compete making this weekend a 20-24 car field. Check below for our newest event sponsor A.C.T. Equipment

It all comes down to this, the final weekend of the 2004 CWDS series. If the weather it good, the series may run a double header, as last weekend's race at the Eagle Motroplex was rained out on Saturday and then a computer glitch ended Sunday's attempt. There will be an all in one race on Saturday for sure with two qualifying hits early Saturday, before final elimination's Saturday afternoon. The Assoc is proud to introduce A.C.T. Equipment Sales as the presenting sponsor for the race Saturday.

Rain and computer problems end the second to last race for the Lucas Oil Canada West Doorslammers this past weekend at the Eagle Motorplex. 13 Doorslammers were on hand to compete at their only race at the interior track this season. No firm decision has been made if the race will been part of a possible double header at Mission this coming weekend. The rains came down in force on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday was real cool in the morning, but it was dry. The cool weather slowed the drying process, and once the track was dry computer glitches from the 1000 ft - finish line prevented the race from going off as scheduled. Track official tried in vain until 3:00pm, when they finally gave in and canceled the day. Points are updated to Sept. 18th. The points for this weekend have not been tallied yet, as the decision on having a double header or just giving everyone at the 'Plex ten appearance points has not been made yet.

Season final Featured Sponsor

Lucas Oil Inc and Lucas Oil Canada have made quite a splash in Motorsports in the past half decade. Lucas Oil Products was founded by Forrest Lucas and his wife Charlotte in 1989. Prior to that, Forrest was a truck driver for over 20 years. He and Charlotte were also the owners of a nationwide long haul trucking fleet. They experienced first hand the need for better lubricants and fuel treatments to maintain their own fleet.

Given their personal experience in the trucking industry, Forrest and Charlotte started Lucas Oil Products with the simple philosophy of producing only the best line of lubricants and additives available anywhere. Since its inception, Lucas has steadfastly adhered to this corporate objective. Through innovative product research and development, along with aggressive marketing programs, Lucas has established itself as a top selling additive line in the American truck stop industry.

Lucas is also one of the fastest growing additive lines in the consumer automotive industry. A premium line of oils, greases and problem solving additives has helped to firmly establish Lucas as a prominent figure in this marketplace.

Lucas has long been directly involved in the American racing industry through multiple vehicle sponsorships and racing event promotions, at all levels. Seeing a need for better lubricants in this industry, the Lucas people went to work again. The end result being a line of high performance engine oils and gear oils that are second-to-none in the racing industry. Lucas racing products have proven themselves on NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, USHRA and ATPA tracks across the country.

In Canada, Lucas Oil, Canadian CEO and Company director Don Baker is pleased to be part of the Canada West Doorslammer series. One of the most popular racing series in Western Canada, Don is proud that a series that really started the Doorslammer craze in the West is based out of Canada. "The series has gained prominence and notoriety as one of the most exciting "Fast Bracket" classes in the West, and to be the title sponsor of a series that has huge growth potential and provides excitement and value to both the spectators and the tracks is a "win-win" situation for both the teams and Lucas Oil".

The newest series event sponsor is Propell Research and Development. Based out of Chilliwack BC, Propell is a design and research company developing products for the automotive, specifically performance motorsports.

Gary Teichrob spent the first 25 years of his career building Tycrop Manufacturing Ltd., into a producer of semi trailers and golf course sand spreading equipment, marketed worldwide. Because of his love for racing, street rods, and motorcycles, and maybe because he is an entrepreneur, he retired as president of Tycrop leaving management to his good partner and created Propell Research & Development Corp. Propell is a "skunk-works" kind of shop located at the Chilliwack airport. Over the next year Gary and his engineering team will work on designs for motorcycles, racing, and other performance parts. Look for innovative parts being tested on the Grossart-Murphy race car in the future, as that is were you will usually find Gary setting the clutch on race weekends. At this point he is being very secretive about what parts they are developing this winter.

The Canada West Doorslammers are proud to have Propell on board as a new partner.

This weekend's race at MRP is sure to be one of the biggest of the year, for both the fans and the race teams as well are showcases along side of the West Coast Pro Mod series and the "Street Legal" Pro Street cars. The series is down to its last three events, with the final two in right around the corner in September. The point battle is really heating up, with Mike Bedsworth and Bob Marshall moving closer to the top two Joe Mellof and Terry Spargo. Marshall with really be hard pressed to move up though as he is debuting and all new race car this weekend. His Jerry Hass built Pontiac Grand Am with a PARR / Schmidt 500 inch Pro Stock engine between the frame rails will be testing on Friday and then will race on Saturday and Sunday. Knowing the quality off the Hass Cars and the preparation Marshall is known for, I would not be surprised if he is a threat with the new ride on Sunday. Bedsworth who sits #4 in the standings has a r/u and a semi final finish in his last two events. Rob Charlton is in fifth place after a semi final finish at the last point's event at Mission. Dave Richardson will probably be one of the spoilers for the rest of the year, as he has a win and r/u at the last two events. Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for the rest of the competitors, Dave did not compete in the first three events of the season as he was working on his new engine combination.
